Our Annual Events

SMNA organizes or supports three main events each year: our fundraising community yard sale in the spring, Dumpster Day in summer, and National Night Out in August.

What is Dumpster Day?

As a neighborhood association officially recognized by the City of Sunnyvale, we are able to coordinate with the city to provide dumpsters for neighborhood residents to use free of charge. Usually held in June, Dumpster Day provides residents a convenient and nearby way to dispose of their trash from spring cleaning without having to go to the SMART Station.

What is National Night Out?

National Night Out (NNO) is a nationwide event. From the NNO website: "National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances." San Miguel's NNO is held on the first Tuesday of August at San Miguel Elementary School where neighbors can meet members of the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety, which may include fire truck tours or K9 selfies! SMNA supports this event by providing ice cream for attendees.
