About SMNA

Who We Are

The San Miguel Neighborhood Association is open to all residents of the San Miguel Neighborhood of Sunnyvale, California. Meetings are held regularly, and we always love to see new neighbors attend to provide ideas and opinions about the issues facing our community.  All official decisions made by the leadership of the association are done so after discussing input from neighbors who attend meetings. See below for our meeting schedule.

 History

SMNA was founded in 1994 and serves the area surrounding San Miguel Elementary School. In 2020, three new neighbors were elected to leadership positions, taking over from several dedicated founding members who still make up the core of the association. Over the past two-and-a-half decades, SMNA has helped our neighborhood stay connected through the San Miguel Messenger newsletter and neighborhood events.

What We Do

As neighborhood association officially recognized by the City of Sunnyvale, SMNA is able to function as a liaison between our neighborhood and the city so we can host events such as Dumpster Day, where neighbors have access to free dumpsters, and National Night Out, which aims to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement. We also publish a quarterly newsletter, the San Miguel Messenger, and have provided food and supplies for students at San Miguel Elementary School.

Mission

The San Miguel Neighborhood Association's purpose is to encourage the multi-cultural and multi-generational families in our neighborhood to come together and create a community that reflects its pride and diversity, to increase the feeling of security and concern among neighbors, inform residents about services that can be helpful to them, and to educate the City of Sunnyvale about our community's needs and concerns.

Where is the San Miguel Neighborhood?

San Miguel is located in the heart of Silicon Valley in Sunnyvale, California. It's bordered on the west by Fair Oaks Avenue, the north by Highway 101, the east by Lawrence Expressway, and the south largely by East Duane Avenue, though parts of the neighborhood lie south of Duane.
